Post-Tan Instructions
  • Avoid saunas, sweating, skin to skin contact, or gym workouts until your first rinse.
  • The temporary bronzer may stain delicate fabrics such as wool, silk, leather or nylon. Make sure to cover your furniture when sitting on anything during this time frame. Once your tan is fully developed and bronzer rinsed off, you can continue with normal activities.
  • If you are a bride or wearing white, be sure to take two full showers with soap prior to wearing your dress, to make sure that you have removed all of the cosmetic bronzer.
  • Rinse according to directions.
  •  If a quick / rapid rinse, go by the time given from when your appointment ended. ONLY RINSE WITH WATER FOR YOUR FIRST SHOWER.   It's suggested to set a timer as a reminder. Do not use any soap for your first rinse.  Do not wash or condition your hair.  Do not apply moisturizer.  Wait until the following day before you can complete these steps.  You will rinse until the water runs clear, and then pat dry.  You will not look tan, as your tan is still in the development process.  You will see the full color the following day.
  • For longer rinse solution, you may sleep in formula or keep it on all day.  You can keep it on a minimum of 6-8 hours depending upon brand used.  It reaches max development by 10 hours, and it's not necessary to keep on any longer.  You can, however, keep it on up to 24 hours if you aren't able to shower sooner.  If you are sleeping in it, wear long sleeved pajamas to avoid skin to skin contact.
  • No essential oil cleansers, or bar soap, such as Dove. We do sell a body wash designed for your tan, Camp Naturals, available for purchase.  As an alternative, you may also purchase at the store Burt's Bees, Alba Botanicals, or Johnson's Baby Wash.  Choose a sulfate free wash.
  • Be gentle with your skin! Always pat dry after showering.
  • Lock in your color and make it last longer with a mineral free moisturizer, avoiding one with essential oils. Our tan extending body lotion has a slight DHA  self tanner in it, designed to moisturize and extend your tan.  Avoid Jergens, baby oil, lotions with mineral oil such as vaseline brand.  If not purchasing Camp Naturals Tan Extending Moisturizer, you may use Burt's Bees, Alba Botanicals, Hempz, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter.
  • Moisturize at least daily, twice a day is preferable.  Ideally apply your moisturizer within a few minutes after your shower to lock it into your skin.  If using our tan extending moisturizer, be sure to wash your palms immediately after.
  Things To Avoid
  • If you exercise and sweat heavily, your tan will fade faster. Especially in body fold areas... arm bends, knee bends, and between breasts.  Be sure to avoid wearing tight clothing during exercise.
  • Facial masks and exfoliation scrubs will remove the tan faster.
  • Hair inhibiting lotions, such as Jergens, can tend to make a sunless tan yellow.
  • Bug sprays, perfumes, body sprays when sprayed directly onto skin can remove or fade the tan. Instead, spray clothing or spray a cloud of spray that you can walk through.
  • Band-Aid or adhesive tape applied to skin will pull the "tan" off.
  • Bore type adhesive facial strips, or “peel-off” masks.
  • Wax or Depilatory hair removal products (Nair, Veet, Neet etc).
  • People with oily skin tend to develop a lighter tan than people with dry skin. The oils can coat the skin, dry skin absorbs more products faster, so can look darker.
  • Toners containing Alcohols or Witch Hazel in the top three ingredients listed can lighten tan.
  • Retin-A type products such as Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, and Tretinoin all will cause faster fading.
  • Avoid using skincare products that contain alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) as they will strip your tan.
  • Choose sunscreen lotion, not spray.  As the spray has alcohol and that can be dehydrating to the skin.
  • Avoid long, hot showers/baths, hot tubs and long periods in pools and oceans. If so, use waterproof sunscreen lotion (not spray) to form a barrier, and rinse after your exposure to remove chlorine and / or salt water.
  • Do not wax / shave for 24 hours as this removes layers of skin and will remove the tan too!  Shaving exfoliates the skin so it also fades the tan. Use a sharp, new razor as an old, dull one will scrape more.
